Pride always leads to downfall

I am currently reading Embracing Obscurity: Becoming Nothing in Light of God’s Everything. I will eventually write a review, but for now I want to reproduce a chart the author used to contrast Christ and Satan. Christ came in humility, Satan in pride.

Using “Christ’s Disposition” as found in Philippians 2:5-11 and
“Satan’s Disposition” as found in Isaiah 14:12-16 & Ezekiel 28:12-17.

Christ is by His very nature God (vs. 6)
Satan is by nature created by God (Ezek. 28:15)

Christ did not cling to His rights or deity, even though they belonged to Him (vs. 6)
Satan pursued the rights of deity, even though they did not belong to him (Isa. 14:13-14)

Christ humbled Himself: made Himself of no reputation (vs. 7)
Satan bragged incessantly in his heart (Isa. 14:13-14)

Christ came to serve men, created ones (vs. 7)
Satan sought to rule over those he did not create (Isa. 14:13-14)

God became Man lower than the angels
Angel tried to become God

Christ chose obedience to the will of God, even though it included obscurity and even death (vs. 8)
Satan rebelled against the will of God because even the beauty, wisdom, high position, and privileges given him weren’t enough (Isa. 14:13-14; Ezek. 28:12-15)

Therefore…
God has exalted Christ (vs. 9)
God has cast Satan down (Isa. 14:12 Ezek. 28:17)

Every knee will bow to Christ, in heaven and earth (vs. 10)
Heaven and earth will marvel at Satan’s destruction (Isa. 14:16)

End result: God is glorified (vs. 11)
End result: God is glorified

Life Summarized…
Christ: Humility followed by Honor
Satan: Pride followed by humiliation
