“The Lord Reigns!”
“The Lord Reigns!”
Psalm 93:1-5
The foundational truth of all Christian theology is that bedrock doctrine of all doctrines, the sovereignty of God. Here is the immovable mountain that towers above all theology, the Mount Everest of all truth. God has the undisputed right to govern all He has created. The Lord reigns!
God’s sovereignty means He reigns absolutely (vv. 1-2)
Vs. 1 a The Lord reigns exclusively – not God & Satan, not God & Circumstances, not God & man, not God & luck, not God & your star.
The Lord reigns constantly – Present tense, not only in the past, not only in the future.
The Lord reigns actively – not like the deists who claim God wound up the watch and now lets it run.
The Lord reigns infinitely – no qualifiers. At all time & in all places
Vs. 1 b The Lord reigns majestically – Monarchs put on robes to project majesty, but God is “clothed in majesty.”
Vs. 1 c The Lord reigns powerfully – “strength.”
Vs. 1 d The Lord reigns immutably – “not be moved” no stifling or changing His plans for the earth. He is always on plan A. He doesn’t change doesn’t have to second guess Himself.
Vs. 2 The Lord reigns eternally – before time, throughout the ages, into eternity future. He can never be impeached; He will never be removed.
God’s sovereignty means man’s rebellion has no effect on Him (vv. 3-4)
The angry waves beat against the rocks of the coastline, but the rocks to not give way. The waves break.
In Isaiah 17, Isaiah refers to the Sea of humanity as the rumble of mighty waters who scatter on the rocks of God’s sovereignty.
Man has always resisted God’s authority.
Rebellion against God’s rule is of no avail.
Man can no more make an impact on God’s sovereignty than the waves do on the rocks.
God scoffs at the pounding of the waves of man’s rebellion.
God’s sovereignty means His Word will produce His results (vs. 5)
The Word is God giving His testimony.
When the Word speaks, God speaks.
“fully confirmed” never fails to come to pass.
As God’s Word is taught, He will build His kingdom.
The result? Holiness in the lives of God’s people.
Like produces like. A holy Word produces holy people.
People transformed into the image of God.
His Word will not return void.
Not for a while, not for this lifetime, for eternity!
We have a rock to cling to. God is that rock. The Lord reigns!
