Review of “unPlanned” dvd

This sixty-minute DVD is based on the book Unplanned: The Dramatic True Story of a Former Planned Parenthood Leaders’ Eye-opening Journey across the Life Line. I have not read the book, but this DVD is definitely worth watching. It tells the story of Abby Johnson who went from the so-called “pro-choice” position on abortion to being “pro-life.” Having had two abortions herself while in college, she was a true believer in the mission of Planned Parenthood. So much so, that she ended up running one of their more successful clinics. Sadly, successful to Planned Parenthood means how many babies are aborted. Eventually this caused a crisis of conscious within Abby and an amazing grace filled turnaround.

However, Abby is not the hero in this story. The heroes are the people from the Coalition for Life office down the street. Their calm, prayerful, Christ-like demeanor is the real story line. Many “pro-life” protestors are doing more harm than good, but done correctly, like the ones in this story, they can change hearts. Changed hearts are the key.

I just became a grandfather for the first time. I found myself crying along with Abby’s father as he mourned the loss of his two aborted grandchildren. It was a gut-wrenching reminder that it’s not only the baby who suffers the pain of abortion.

This DVD was produced by Focus on the Family in association with Tyndale House Publishers and Franklin Films. It was provided to me free of charge to review from Tyndale House Publishers as part of the Tyndale Blog Network. The opinions in the review are my own.
